Why I Chose Circa Lighting for our Home Build

Early on in the process of building our first home, I was busy gathering inspiration and nailing down which vendors we would work with. Giddy with excitement, I headed to Charleston, SC to peruse the Circa Lighting showroom. When I arrived to their location on King Street, I wasn’t sure if I had just walked into a Parisian boutique or a Southern antique shop. One thing I knew for sure was that I wanted my home to have the same warmth, style and and charming appeal that the showroom did. After talking with the showroom staff, I discovered that this pendant was going to be produced and decided right then and there that it would be what I based all the rest of my lighting (and some of my decor) decisions off of. From there, I went through their website for hours on end, and room by room selected the perfect lighting for our very first home build.

Why I Chose Circa Lighting

Circa Lighting is a Savannah, GA based lighting company with an extensive online selection and 10 showrooms located across the country. Obviously, I loved them immediately due to their Southern roots and killer style. I am also drawn to the brand because of its female founder, who has grown Circa into a leading authority for residential, commercial and luxury lighting. One thing I love to do when I travel to beautiful hotels and resorts is to ask who decorated the spaces and where the decor is sourced from. You would be amazed at how many luxury properties are filled with Circa Lighting. In fact, as I was finalizing my selections for our home, I visited the The Clifton in Charlottesville, VA only to find out the beautiful fixtures I had been drooling over were indeed sourced from Circa Lighting!

Another reason I wanted to use Circa Lighting was because of their selection and designer collaborations. Circa carries products by dozens of premier designers, like Thomas O’Brian, Chapman & Meyers, Aerin, and even Ralph Lauren! We have lighting from all these designers, and I love that even though they were made by different designers, they look cohesive in a space together.

In addition to their history and selection, Circa provides a streamlined process for selecting decorative lighting that is unlike any I’ve experienced before. Selecting light fixtures can be overwhelming, especially when there is a plethora of options presented to you all at once, but the carefully curated selection available at Circa Lighting makes it easy to confidently choose tasteful fixtures that will really work to pull your home together. I mean seriously, every single thing on their site makes me drool.

Clarkson Lighting

If you are looking for the style and customer service of Circa Lighting, but at a more affordable price point, then you MUST check out Circa Lighting’s sister company, Clarkson Lighting. Circa’s founder, Gale Singer, also founded Clarkson Lighting, an online boutique of high-quality, beautiful lighting with accessible price points and impeccable customer service. The inventory at Clarkson Lighting spans a large range of styles and prices and their expert consultants are available to help you with all of your lighting needs. Several of our ceiling fans are from Clarkson Lighting, and I highly recommend them if you are looking for good lighting and a great experience.

Free Lighting Resources

Another great attribute of Circa Lighting is their expansive Inspiration gallery that is filled with stunning kitchens, baths, entries, bedrooms and virtually every other room you could think of. I found this especially helpful when I decided the direction I wanted to go with our lighting. There is even a section on Circa Lighting’s website dedicated to tips for selecting, ordering and installing your lighting. I utilized every single one of these free resources throughout the course of our home build, especially the ceiling lighting tips and the light bulb guide. If you are ever wanting to order, install or change your existing lighting, then I highly encourage taking advantage of their guides!

Lights In Our Home

I’m so excited to finally share with you some photos of the lighting in our home! Stay tuned because as I get these rooms styled, I’ll be sharing full reveals for each room. For now, you can see our exterior lights on our Porch Reveal, and there will be more room reveals to follow!

Kitchen

For our kitchen island we chose the Hicks extra large pendant in antique brass, and for over the kitchen sink we chose the Boston Functional Library Light in bronze. Our kitchen pendants are installed, but we are deciding on the height. I consulted Circa’s ceiling guide and have decided on 33″ from the surface of the counter. I’ll share photos as soon as we get them finalized!

Living Room

The living room lighting is some of my favorite. I love how the picture lights add interest to our built ins, and the huge chandeliers are one of my favorite aspects of our family room. Our ceilings are very high and I think the chandeliers really help to fill out the room and add warmth and charm. Our oversized iron ceiling fan is also a stunner!

Master Bath

I’m feeling a little repetitious here, but the lighting in my master bathroom is also absolutely stunning. I knew I wanted mix metals and definitely wanted accents of brass in the bathroom. I landed on using polished nickel fixtures and the Presidio Small Sconce in Hand-Rubbed Antique Brass. Originally we weren’t planning to have a chandelier above the bathtub but after seeing how large and mostly white the room was I wanted to add a statement piece. Enter the Jacqueline Chandelier in Antique Brass and Clear Glass. It is a stunner and (in my opinion) makes the entire room!

Our Bedroom

Our master bedroom wasn’t a room I focused on all too much besides the architectural details of the windows, antique timber beams, and modern ceiling fan. I really cannot wait to start designing this room and adding texture, warmth and more beautiful lighting.

Powder Room

In the powder room I knew I wanted shiplap on the walls and fixtures with a more industrial feel to achieve that modern rustic look I adore. I discovered these Urban Renewal Sconces from Clarkson Lighting and ordered them immediately!

My Office

My office is another room that I cannot wait to decorate! However, I could probably leave it completely empty and love it just the same thanks to the Aged Brass Chandelier and Brass Picture Lights. My plan right now is to let the builtins and lighting be the featured pieces and fill the room with muted textures, a delicate glass desk and as many cream and neutral and natural decor pieces that I can find.

Guest Bath

Our guest bath is downstairs in “man-land” and I decorated it with plenty of moody tones, rustic elements and matte black everything. This Matte Black Wall Sconce was the perfect addition!

Upstairs Baths

For the playroom & girls’ room I decided to keep things traditional with white ceiling fans and triple sconces in polished nickel and I love how it turned out!

Exterior

We still need to have our exterior professionally photographed but are waiting until the landscaping gets a little more grown in. Here is an image I shared in our porch reveal that shows you our exterior fixtures. I picked the Fresno Framed Medium Sconces in Aged Iron for the entire exterior and I’m thrilled with how they turned out!
