Halloween Costumes for Kids

It’s almost time again for Halloween, aka the one time of year you get to dress your kids up in the most ridiculous costumes and convince them you’re laughing with them, not at them.

You may remember the Oompa Loompa debacle from two years ago that went on for several weeks prior to Halloween. If not, let me catch you up. Scottie absolutely insisted on being an Oompa Loompa for Halloween, and once we realized absolutely nothing would change her mind, we gave in, bought some orange face paint, and made that costume happen.

I love letting my girls choose what costumes they want to wear for Halloween (within reason, of course) because it’s a chance for them to showcase their personalities (hence, Scottie as an Oompa Loompa). Most of the time, however, I try to start manipulating the system late summer so that they will dress up in a group costume.

Easy Kids Costumes to Buy for Halloween

And with all the great costume options on the world wide web, I know I’ll be able to find just about anything they could come up with. This may be shocking to you, but I’m not really the DIY Halloween Costume type of mom. We are store-bought costume people all the way, but we do like to add our own personal flair with face paint, accessories, etc. You can seriously find the best, cutest costumes at stores like Target, Pottery Barn, and Amazon, and they’ll save you hours of DIY labor. I’m rounding up all the best ones I’ve seen below!

Our Past Halloween Costumes

Here is a look at my kids’ Halloween costumes through the years! I think I’ve successfully convinced them to dress up in a theme again this year so stay tuned to see if it turns out!!

2014: Hayden the Lion

Girls Halloween Costume

Hayden the lion in the pre-blog days. It made an appearance again in 2016 on Scottie!

2015: A Monkey & A Banana

Girls Halloween Costume

This could be my favorite year ever for themed Halloween costumes. Hayden was a monkey and Scottie was a 6-week old banana.

2016: The Wizard of Oz

The next year our friend group made the kids all dress up like characters from the Wizard of Oz. Hayden was a scarecrow and her friend was Dorothy. Scottie was the cowardly lion which was a costume I reused from the year Hayden was a baby!

2017: Forest Animals

The year they were forest animals and my heart could have exploded. Scottie was a bunny & Hayden was a fox. I mean just look at these tutus!!!

2018: A Witch & An Oompa Loompa

Halloween Costumes for Kids

Hayden insisted on being a witch which broke my heart a tiny bit because Scottie just had to be an Oompa Loompa due to our Willy Wonka obsession. I didn’t love the wig that came with the outfit so I ordered this wig and we painted her face with orange face paint.

2019: Little Red Riding Hood and The Big Bad Wolf

2020: Anna & Elsa

This year they are going to be Anna & Elsa and you can see their costumes in this post.
