Happy New Year’s Eve everyone! I’m so thankful that the Lord allowed me another trip around the sun to spend making memories with my friends and family. 2016 was also a big year for The Southern Style Guide. Southern Living named me one of their 50 Southern Fashion Instagram Accounts to Follow which was pretty cool and with two babies (born 19 months apart) under my belt I finally had a tad more free time to dedicate to growing this little side job of mine. In April of this year I took my first ever outfit photos which I don’t think I will ever get used to doing but I’m ok with that. ‘Model Me’ would be strange and I don’t think I would like her very much. However, it is the most effective way to share my love of shopping and styling clothes so I would foresee more outfit posts in 2017. I also really love to style parties and tinker with decorating my house which I also shared a little more of this year and promise more of in 2017.
In addition to more outfit posts, shopping guides, beauty reviews and travel features I am also introducing an entirely new form of content in 2017! Starting next week I will officially be filming and blogging hair and makeup tutorials!!! Why you asked? Well for starters I love discovering new hair, skin and face products and trying out new tricks to make myself feel as cute as humanly possible. I am also a self-proclaimed hoarder of beauty products. Plus I get asked way more about my hair and makeup than I do any other category of this blog so I know it’s something you all want to see. After all I’m here to serve. And to have a hobby that makes money. (Just being honest.)
I have put off filming these tutorials for awhile now because I kind of hate myself on camera and I’m definitely not a makeup artist or anywhere near it. But then insta-stories happened and people DM me a lot about what products I’m wearing and I figure the world could use a few more people being honest and authentic and a few less people thinking they are Kim Kardashian or the next reality-TV sensation. So they might be terrible, I will probably fumble over my words and I will most definitely have that beautiful South Carolina accent happening but I’m pretty much a wizard with a contour palette if I do say so myself. I’m also a mom and have no time or patience for thirty seven steps or taping my face to make my eyeshadow straight or any of that junk so they will be quick and informative! If you are interested in tutorials let me know by leaving a comment below or telling me what types of hair & makeup tricks you want to know!
While you’re waiting on the edge of your seat you can browse through my 10 of my most-visited posts of 2016. (In no particular order)
I always look forward to reading your blog and looking at your posts! you’re amazing at what you do and you make it feel attainable for us busy people to understand and to execute. Looking forward to the new content in 2017!
Thanks Mae Mae! I love you!!!
Can’t wait to see your contour how-to! I’m a busy mom, but not a wizard, and would love to learn ? You bring on that Carolina drawl! Cheers to more being real in 2017!
Love your style and honesty! As a late 40’s ish (emphasis on the ish) mom of two teenage girls I really love that your style is classic and not ‘trying to look like a teenager’ fashion! Can’t wait to see makeup tips. I need them!
Would love to see how you contour your face and curl your hair!
2017!!! So exciting! I got the Tartlette in Bloom Pallette and the brushes you recommended. I would love an eye shadow tutorial. Thank you Cristin for making beauty fun:)
Eek!! Can’t wait for your hair & makeup tutorials! Please tell me you’re doing one on how you curl your hair?! I’m almost never happy with the way mine turn out. Happy 2017!
