The Wentworth Mansion

The Wentworth Mansion, Charleston SC Luxury Hotel

When you check into The Wentworth Mansion it’s like checking in to someone’s home. And in the late 1800s that is exactly what this 24,000 square-foot, four-story building was, a home. The Wentworth Mansion was built by a wealthy cotton merchant Francis Silas Rodgers in 1881 and completed in 1886 for his family of 13. As you walk through the halls you can just imagine the children running in and out of the bedrooms and how busy the place must have been full of family members and staff. Two grand matching chandeliers that Rodgers commissioned on a trip to Europe still hang today and stand as just one example of the preserved characteristics of this centuries old home. Other impressive features include the elegant marble mantle pieces found in the home’s double parlors, Lewis Comfort Tiffany glass panels, Philadelphia pressed brick and a rooftop cupola with panoramic views of the historic city.

Luckily for us all The Wentworth Mansion was purchased in 1997 by proprietor Richard Widman and underwent an extensive $7 M renovation to reserve it’s historic features and transform it into a one-of-a-kind luxury hotel experience. Operated by Charming Inns this award winning property was recognized as the #1 Small City Hotel in the US in 2015 by Travel and Leisure World’s Best Awards. And the list of accolades doesn’t end there. It was also voted the #8 Best Luxury Hotel in the US by 2016 TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice awards. (Not too shabby if you ask me.)

The amenities are pretty much endless but include a complimentary breakfast, afternoon hors d’ourvres & wine, parking, wireless and health club access. There is also a turndown service and your room is stocked with everything you could ever need including soft drinks and bottled water. Should you want to make reservations at Circa 1886, the fine dining restaurant on the grounds or book a treatment at their 1,000 square foot spa there just so happens to be a 24 concierge service to take care of your every need.

So maybe checking into The Wentworth Mansion is like checking into someones home…. if that someone is the Queen of England.
