Fall Skincare Routine

As promised, here is my current skincare regimen. I tried to include all of my favorite items but you can also visit this page for more or this page where I keep up with my most recent beauty buys. I’ve listed out the order in which I apply things because I think one of the most confusing things when you are working on a skincare overhaul is knowing the correct order to apply your products. As a simple rule always layer them thinest to thickest. For example, you would put an eye serum on before an eye cream because the serum has a thinner consistency and can get into those fine lines. Then you would apply the eye cream as a top layer. Check back on Thursday for my favorite fall makeup products and please let me know any questions you may have in the comments!

Here is a handy infographic if you need help remembering the specifics. Pin it to your beauty board or print it for your bathroom mirror as a reminder.

how to apply skincare products, morning skincare routine, nightly skincare routine

MORNING

Step 1: Cleanser – I love this cleanser from Tula. You can save 20% w/ code CRISTIN. If you are looking for a drugstore product I love this one.

Step 2: Toner – I have been using this toner for a month or two and so far so good!

Step 3: Serums – This is by far my favorite serum to use in the daytime because it targets dark spots and hyper-pigmentation.

Step 4: Moisturizer – When I wear a CC cream I skip this step and just apply SPF and then the CC cream but if I’m wearing foundation I moisturize before with this day & night moisturizer.

Step 5: Sunscreen – Always! My two favorite ones are this one by Elta MD and this one by Supergoop!

Step 6: Day Cream or Foundation – I use this CC cream in color “light” daily and this foundation in color 125 when I need more coverage. We will dive into all of my makeup later this week but for now you can read through my makeup posts here or shop my current favorites here.

EVENING

Step 1: Cleanser – I use this cleanser from Tula again at night. You can save 20% w/ code CRISTIN. If you are looking for a drugstore product I love this one.

Step 2: Toner – I have been using this toner for a month or two and so far so good! A toner at night is a great idea because it helps to balance your skin before you apply any treatments or serums.

Step 3: Treatments – Here is where you could apply any treatments for skin concerns you might have. For instance, I love this product for exfoliation and to help reduce the appearance of pores. I also have used retin-a for over a decade and I think I’m finally starting to see real results from it. Retin-A and other serums should be applied to clean skin for maximum effect. I am currently using a compounded rx of Retin-A and Hydroquinone as a follow up to the lasering + microneedling that I’m doing.

Step 4:? Serums – When I’m taking a break from Retin-A I will use this volume defense serum from Tula.

Step 4: Moisturizer – At night I use this day & night moisturizer or when I’m really feeling dry I will use this hydrating cream.

Step 5: Eye Cream – I use this eye serum every night followed by this eye cream. I also really love this eye cream.

Step 6: Face Oil – This face oil is amazing! Colleen Rothschild is another brand I love and her masks are THE BEST! Read more about her products here.

If you have any specific questions let me know and I’ll round up the answers for you in a follow-up post!

I have just started using retinol. Do you exfoliate, use a mask, and apply retinol all on the same
Night? I am just using retinol 3 times a week to start. I exfoliate 3 times a week and use a mask twice a week. Just wondering if it’s ok to do all 3 on the same night.
Thanks so much for your help!
