February is great for hitting the slopes but not necessarily an ideal month for keeping your kids active outdoors on school days. Our girls love to play in the snow and ski but not every winter day is a weekend full of fluffy powder and ski instructors. For those dreary, rainy afternoons in the winter I’m always looking for a way to get outdoors, entertain the girls and drain some of their seemingly endless energy. Today, in partnership with Backcountry, I’m going to share our favorite after-school outdoor activity and all the apparel you need to stay cozy and moving in cold weather. You don’t have to live on the side of a mountain or at a ski resort to stay active and outdoors in the winter!

Backcountry is hands down my favorite outdoor retailer because they have the gear that you need to hike, bike, climb or ski plus all of the everyday activewear you could want from the likes of Patagonia, Lole, Arc Teryx, and Adidas and more. Their inventory is endless and their customer service is next to none! Plus, they carry styles for the entire family! If you have never ordered from them before then pick yourself something special from my roundup below and use CRISTIN15 for 15% off of your first order!

Last month I talked about spending more time hiking trails and while my girls love tagging along with me I often need something a little quicker or easier on their little legs. My three-year-old is a beast but a 2 mile incline isn’t something she is ready to tackle quite yet! When my girls were little we would head to a local park and I would jog them around in a stroller and then end with stopping at the playground to play for a bit. Now that they are older I still continue this method and we walk or jog before playing on the playground!

I don’t know about you but I loathe a swing! The other moms probably think I’m crazy as I’m yelling “we didn’t come play outside so that you can sit on a swing!”. I’m probably the only maniac out there that puts a timer on swinging. Instead I encourage them to run around and be active by being active with them. Sometimes that looks like them jogging with me, others we do lunges or my personal favorite, races. Call me old school, but I think kids need to run! And while my girls live for a rock wall and a slide they also don’t mind playing tag and having races. In fact they think it’s pretty fun when I join in too, expect for the fact that I never let them win!

My hope is that kids or no kids, you won’t let dreary weather keep you indoors this winter! All you need is a warm pair of leggings, a great pair of sneakers and a cozy hoodie to keep you geared up for running around outdoors. Even if you just change into some activewear and make one lap around a local park, I guarantee your mood will lighten! If you are in the market for a cozy hoodie, I personally love this one because the high neck and sleeves with thumb holes provide so much warmth. For those of you who like options, here are a few of my other favorite styles for active outerwear. If you are unsure of what to buy for your specific activity or need then you can call, chat or email a Backcountry gearheads 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They can help you find anything from the perfect pair of leggings to a great pair of shoes or even gear for an upcoming trip. I have personally called several times to get advice on items and help with knowing what to order, especially when we went to Canada.

The girls have LOVED wearing these pullovers and cozy leggings so much! I buy the pullovers a little big so they can wear them for an entire fall through spring! These Nike shoes are also our favorite running shoes! If you want a few more options for great pullovers then check out the roundups below or head on over to Backcountry.com!
