Last week Zach and I took off from the Omni in Bretton Woods, NH to explore the white mountains as we drove Route 302 to Maine. Naturally, I was almost as excited to break out my new Patagonia fleece from Backcountry and wear it with the windows down as I was about the adventure ahead. I can honestly say that the only item of clothing that I count down the days for is a cozy pullover to pair with chilly weather as I welcome the arrival of fall. Truthfully I check the weather forecast non-stop pre-fall in anticipation of “sweater weather” or as I like to call it “Patagonia weather”. Backcountry is my number one source for all of our favorite outerwear brands like Patagonia, Arc’teryx and Burton but they also carry so many lifestyle brands I love like Free People, Basin & Range, Rails, White + Warren, Sorel, Brixton & Frye! Today, I’m excited to team up with them to share with you the perfect outfit for any fall road trip that will keep you comfy, stylish and allow you to walk a small trail to an overlook or waterfall should the opportunity arise.

The day before we left New Hampshire for Maine we hiked the Flume in the White Mountains and got in a good sweat session. With some strenuous adventure behind us we decided that the trek to Maine was going to be a good ole fashioned road trip complete with playlist after playlist and stopping all along the way to admire the beauty of fall. I had read online that Route 302 was a scenic drive with plenty of opportunities for stopping to get outside, explore, view waterfalls, take in the idyllic fall scenery and potentially even spot a moose. We loaded up our rental at dawn, filled our cups up with coffee, rolled our windows down and set out for a fun drive.

Immediately we came across Silver Cascades and walked a little ways up the rocks for some photos. I love wearing shoes that give me height and typically those shoes aren’t made for being outdoors. Then I found these Sorel wedges on Backcountry and they are, in a word, amazing. They are waterproof with a thick tread and are comfortable enough to wear while walking all day. I wouldn’t have wanted to climb a steep incline in them but for an everyday shoe that you could take into the woods or walk over some rocks if needed, they are the best! I think they would be great tailgating shoes, too, especially on a day where you are expecting some rain or wet conditions.

In addition to the booties, this pullover is one of my favorite new additions to my closet. It is so cozy but doesn’t make you feel like you’re suffocating. I recommend sizing up if you are between sizes (I got a medium) so you can layer over your other clothing. I will say that you absolutely need to wash it before you wear because it’s so fuzzy and wonderful and you don’t want any of the initial fall-0ff getting onto your jeans. I layered it over this Patagonia waffle henley that is so comfortable that I want it in every color to wear under vests and pullovers this fall. I wore my Basin & Range soft stretch pants because they are the perfect mix of leggings and jeans and great for a road trip. Another item I was finally able to wear during this excursion is my new Brixton beanie. As previously discussed I’m loving all things brown and cream and tan for fall and I’m also a sucker for a Beanie. I feel inclined to remind you that if you are wearing a beanie during the day and don’t want to flatten your hair for evening then part your hair on the opposite side before you put the beanie on. Then when you take it off and flip your hair over you will have instant volume!
