Alright guys I did it. I took the plunge and created a YouTube Channel. Before I get in to why exactly I’m embarrassing myself on the internet I want to put it out there that I am fully aware that I’m not a professional hair stylist. Or makeup artist for that matter. (Right now every person actually trained to do hair and/or makeup is semi-rolling their eyes and snarking to themselves… “yeah, we can tell”.) I’m just a girl who thoroughly enjoys binge watching hair and makeup tutorials and learning how to look like a prettier version of myself. Call me old fashioned but I don’t think there is anything wrong with a girl wanting to feel pretty, ok? And when that girl is a mom of two discovering dark spots and fine lines on her face the desire to look cute goes from “maybe I need a new lipgloss” to “quick honey hold the baby I need to go to Sephora and try all the samples and get someone to tell me how to fix this lizard skin situation.”
Anyone who knows me well maybe isn’t surprised that 30 year old Cristin has a YouTube Channel (b.r.b. I’m still nervous laughing) but they sure would be surprised if 17 year old Cristin did this. You see I didn’t grow up overly girly spending hours primping every day before school. I was the girl who woke up a good 30 minutes before class started, wore athleisure before it was cool and was more concerned about if I was going to have time to stop and get a ham sandwich before practice than if my hair looked good.
Don’t get the wrong impression that I never dressed up, highlighted my hair or wore makeup though. I’m just trying to explain it wasn’t and still isn’t my default. My go-to is definitely a top knot and a fresh face over a full set of waves and makeup. I just want my topknot to have texture, my highlights to be on-point and my fresh face to be a solid mixture of a ton of mascara to make me look awake, skin creams to make me glow, serums to fade by dark spots and well, you get the picture.
In my quest to learn how to do my hair, fix my makeup and look 22 forever I discovered that there aren’t too many YouTube Channels out there that focused on natural looking, easy to follow tutorials or simple product reviews. I love watching a good full-face transformation where you magically cover up sharpie on your face as much as the next girl but I’m still in the group just trying to get out of the house without forgetting to fill in one of my eye-brows. I love trying new products and reviewing them in blog posts but there is just only so much you can do through the written word. Maybe it’s because I don’t know enough words or I’m easily distracted but I just think videos are so much easier to follow.
So here I am entering the world of being a “vlogger”. Which sounds a little dirty but apparently it’s what they/we are called. I’ll be posting real-life, easy to follow tutorials that you could actually do and then go out in public along with plenty of honest product reviews. Just like with my style or shopping posts I will never try to promote something ugly or crappy just to make a buck. I don’t have time or money to waste on sub-par products and I’m betting you don’t either.
My first video is all about how to get big, loose curls. Also known as how I curl my hair. I recently chopped 7″ off of my hair so I’ve had to learn how to do it all over again which is challenging to say the least. The other videos I’m planning are everyday makeup, date night makeup, some easy braids, how I do a top-knot and reviews of some new products I’ve been itching to try. If you have anything else you would like to see please let me know. And please be patient with me as I learn how to do this whole video recording, video editing and not looking like an idiot thing.
An easy hair tutorial for big, loose curls that took me 15 minutes to do in real time.

Those are the perfect big curls! Love your tips! And YAY for taking the Youtube plunge! Get it girl!
Love your big pretty curls! Thanks for sharing these tips. I have the waves down but need help with the curls!
I’ve been wanting to start Vlogging but feel so intimated, so thanks so much for being brave and sharing this with us! Your hair looks fabulous!
xo, Sara
Your curls are so gorgeous!! I love this tutorial – I hope I can get mine to look as good as yours do!
This tutorial is amazing girl! YAY for YouTube!
I love it!!! I think it’ll def help me up my hair curling game too — the bigger the better; love your suggestions on teasing and alternating in that middle section of hair, as well as the velcro roller and texturizing spray tricks. I’ve been just curling everything the same exact direction all over my head and letting it “set” by just taking it off the iron — which means flat top, Shirley Temple bottom half. (Boo!) Can’t wait to try!!! And seriously, you would never know this was your first attempt at a vlog! Kudos!
Yay! So happy for you venturing into the world of vlogging! I loved watching your video!

I loved this tutorial! Ever since you posted that you were working/ editing your makeup tutorial on Instagram stories I’ve been looking forward to watching. Your hair looks fab and I appreciate the length of the tutorial. I will never understand why some vloggers make their videos like 25 minutes plus. Who honestly wants to spend 25-45 minutes watching someone fix their hair? Sorry just venting. 🙂
Great job, I look forward to your future tutorials!
Congrats on starting the youtube channel! Thats one thing I’m afraid to do!
