Drum roll please…. this is in fact the first time ever in the history of getting dressed that I have worn white denim. If you’ve been ready my blog for any amount of time you are aware of my insecurities about my short legs and honestly I’ve just always considered myself someone that couldn’t pull off white jeans. I felt like they were only reserved for my tall / leggy friends and always made me look shorter than I am.

So what changed you ask?

Well I started this little thing called The Southern Style Guide where I am trying my hardest to stay relevant and stylish so I’ve been combing the clothing stores over to find a pair of white denim that I like and would actually wear out in public. Not an easy task! In my year long quest I not only discovered a great pair of cropped white jeans but I also picked up a couple of tips for styling white denim + how to style them all of us vertically challenged folks out there.

How to maximize your white denim style, especially if you are short:

#1 – If you are going to wear white denim a lot then invest in a pair made by your favorite denim brand. If you think that white jeans might make you look fat, short or strange then why would you wear a pair that doesn’t fit you well and that you don’t love? Everyone has a favorite pair of jeans out there and chances are the same brand makes white! For me this brand is Paige Denim. I love how Paige jeans fit my waist and rear in addition to the way they feel and wash. Plus I really love the fabric, the amount of stretch they have (not to much, not too little ) and that they come in a cropped style so that I don’t have to have them hemmed.

#2 – Always pair white denim with neutral shoes. Sure you could be some trend setter or supermodel but if you’re normal like me then sticking with neutral shoes is your best bet. First of all they match everything but more importantly they elongate your frame and give the illusion that you are taller than you are.

#3 – Wear heels or wedges always. See #2

#4 – Pick a top with a ton of white in the pattern like this one from BB Dakota. All the white helps to elongate your frame and draw the eyes up to the pattern of your shirt rather than just focus on the brightness of your legs.

So what do you think? Ready to take the plunge?
