On our most recent trip to Charleston we were lucky enough to stay the majority of the time at The Spectator. Located a few steps off of Market Street, this hotel is literally minutes from anywhere you would want to go in downtown Charleston. You can be shopping on King Street within 3 minutes of exiting the front doors and down to Waterfront Park in no less than 7. It is beautiful, impressive and the customer service is over the top. Not only was The Spectator named one of the South’s Most Stylish New Hotels by Garden & Gun but it was also recognized as the Number 1 Hotel in the Continental US by Travel & Leisure. Oh yeah, and the Number 2 Hotel in the World, also by Travel & Leisure. I don’t know about you all but I pretty much consider Travel & Leisure the authority on traveling and so those are some mighty fine accolades.
The decor of The Spectator is luxurious and nostalgic of the 1920’s art deco movement. The lobby is as inviting as it is swanky and there is a stylish jazz bar right inside the front doors. The bathrooms are beautiful and dripping with marble and the elegant rooms have every modern amenity you could want including smart TVs, free Wi-Fi, a Nespresso machine and mini fridge. Some rooms have city views and even balconies (note to self: must go back and stay in one) and butler services are available. Did I mention that they give you mini nightcaps every night with a turndown service? Or that they have complimentary bikes? Or that any time we got our cars from the valet that they offered us water bottles? I could really go on and on about the details and the friendliness.
My favorite amenity, if I’m being honest, is the complimentary continental breakfast. It’s not your typical hotel chain, stale cereal type of breakfast either. When you stay at The Spectator they leave a card in your room at night and you select what items you want, fill out what time you would like it served and place the card on the door knob. I mean what a dream! It totally spoils you and makes you never want to stay anywhere else. There are also snacks and apps in the bar every afternoon and their bar also has the most wonderful drinks and atmosphere.
If you are planning a trip in the near future you must consider staying at?The Spectator. If you need recommendations on what to do you can always check out my most recent travel guide + all of my posts about Charleston.
