Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.
F. Scott Fitzgerald
I can appreciate a sunny beach, a snowy slope or a meadow of spring wildflowers just as much as the next girl but there is something about autumn that speaks to my soul. When the temperatures start to drop and the leaves begin to fade I get an excitement in my bones that I can barely put into words. There is just nothing better than spending crisp mornings on the porch and warm & breezy afternoons and weekends outside exploring, playing and tailgating during the fall. We have already been to the apple orchard more times than I can count, visited the pumpkin patch, navigated through a corn maze and stuffed our faces with fresh apple donuts. I’ve got my porch stacked with pumpkins, my pantry full of apple-cider-everything and my closet prepared for the cooler temps with my favorite Backcountry apparel.

Zach and I are headed to New England in a few weeks to celebrate our anniversary and I’m giddy with excitement to break out my boots and layer all the tops, jackets, and vests possible. We are planning on exploring, hiking, eating and relaxing our way through Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine and I’m stocking my suitcase with all of my favorite Backcountry finds from Arc Teryx, Patagonia, Sorel and more. Today I wanted to share with you the new fall styles from Backcountry I’ve found while planning for our trip. I’m rounding up the best outerwear, lifestyle apparel, footwear and accessories for the entire family.

PATAGONIA VEST // How many Patagonia vests is too many Patagonia vests Once I saw this rust shade (Beech Brown) I had to snag it! I can wear a small or a medium in these vests and typically opt for medium when it’s a vest I don’t want to zip but want to wear open like how I’ve styled it above.
PRANA WOMEN’S SWEATER // The perfect layering top for fall! This sweater is extremely lightweight and is awesome for layering under a vest. I’m in a medium.
HIGH-RISE SKINNY PANTS // These are the thinnest, stretchiest pants I’ve ever worn. They are perfect for all of those early fall activities where you want to wear pants but don’t want to be too hot. I’m in a size 6!
RAY-BAN SUNGLASSES // I typically opt for a larger Ray-Ban frame but really love these!! Everyone should own a pair of classic aviators. I think they are timeless and flattering on any face shape!
BACKPACK // Ok this is actually more of a tote, purse, backpack hybrid of a bag. It has multiple pockets, expandable straps, a fully padded laptop pocket, neoprene internal pockets and zipper closures. It’s amazing!
SOREL BOOTS // Waterbrook boots that are comfortable enough to stroll through an apple orchard and cute enough to wear to dinner afterwards are hard to come by. These Sorel boots did not disappoint! I love the Ash Brown color, the refined cut-out, the block heel and the comfort level. 5 stars.

Fall Activities for the Family
Here are a few things that we love to do during the fall and a few things I’m want to do this year if you’re looking for any family activities! If you have a special tradition or fall activity that you love add it to the comments below!
- Picking apples at an apple orchard. Bonus points for baking with the apples when you are home!
- Making apple cider, apple pie or pumpkin muffins (for the girls & Zach because I hate pumpkin).
- Visiting a corn maze, pumpkin patch or fair. To be honest, the fair creeps me out but I can get behind fair food.
- A movie under the stars (I really want to try this now that the girls are older).
- Hiking all the pretty hikes or driving the Blue Ridge Parkway and hoping out to mini-hike overlooks.
- Camping or, my personal fav, backyard camping.
- Bonfires under the stars complete with hotdogs, s’mores & all the fixings!
- Low country boil & oyster roasts. I love a good seafood gathering when you’re bundled up!
- Visiting your favorite town’s fall festival.
What else do you love to do during the fall to get outside, explore and enjoy the weather?!?
