I’m sure you’ve stumbled upon your fair share of “DIY” birthday parties in your day but let me introduce you to a new category in party planning, “BIY”. That’s right, buy-it-yourself. It’s a special type of shopping trickery where you don’t spend the time making cute homemade items but rather, buy them. I would love to be able to spend my time crafting all the livelong day but that’s not exactly the career path I’ve chosen, nor do I have the patience or the skill. So instead I turn to Etsy, a global marketplace for unique and creative goods. I get to spend my time blogging and being a mom and leave the garland making to the professionals. Etsy has been my number one party source on everything from a Pineapple & Flamingo party to a Rainbow & Unicorn party so when it was time to gear up for Scottie’s Ice Cream Themed Birthday Party, I headed straight to Etsy.com to work my party magic.

I love Etsy not only for their endless selection but also because they give small business owners a chance to build thriving businesses. In fact, I’m a former owner of an Etsy shop myself so I guess I kind of fibbed about that whole not having the skill to craft thing before. Or maybe I was actually telling the truth since neither my jewelry making business nor my hair-bow making business ever quite took off. But isn’t it great that someone like me can have a dream of crafting or sourcing vintage treasures and automatically have a platform built to support that dream and access to millions of buyers? What a time to be alive!

These days I still dream of collaborating on a jewelry line but I’ve turned my creative attention to showering my children in ultra-themed birthday parties. If you’re a TSSG reader then you know August has been less than calm over here in the Cooper house. We’ve traveled a ton, spent time on our new home build, moved out of our apartment and into a new house for a few months, Hayden has almost knocked her teeth out and most recently, Zach came down with a case of Bell Palsy. People I do not have the time to make bows for my children anymore. Or anything for that matter! When it came time to have Scottie’s 3rd birthday party I spent about 30 minutes on Etsy ordering all the cuteness and then one afternoon running errands to pick up the food and basically felt the need to pat myself on the back for how I pulled off such a cute party in so little time!

Favors for the kids were little rubber bouncy balls & mini ice cream lipglosses I found!

How pretty is this cake from my friend?!?
I called ahead and got pre-made frozen ice cream cups and filled paper bowls with different toppings. The kids had a blast making their own treats!
