One of my goals this year is to take my fitness routines outdoors again! Today, in partnership with Backcountry, I’m going to share with you how I plan on making this goal a reality while also sharing my favorite outdoor apparel to help you get outside and get moving as well! Backcountry, the ultimate specialty outdoor retailer, carries so many of my favorite brands including Patagonia, Lole, Arc’Teryx, Sorel and Adidas and I’m pumped to be partnering with them today. I’ve combed their huge inventory of items and put together two different looks for you that can take you from school drop-off to running errands to exercising outside in a breeze. In an effort to spend more time outside, I’ll be dropping off my girls, running an errand or two and hitting the running trails near our house.
Before I had my first daughter I regularly ran outside and would end the run climbing a 1.5 mile trail to an overlook. I loved the goal of a beautiful view at the top and, in all honesty, I loved knowing that the route home would be infinitely easier. In my pre-baby days I would walk, jog or even time myself to see how fast I could run to the top. After I had Hayden I continued to walk the trails, this time pushing a jogging stroller and newborn in tow. I dropped my baby weight instantly and was in incredible shape. Having played tennis & soccer all my life, I love exercising outdoors. There is nothing better than breathing fresh air with the sun shining on your face. I also love the fact that scenery is passing by as you run or hike and believe it or not I freaking love to sweat. In my opinion there is no worse workout than running on a treadmill in a gym and staring at the same thing with a fan blowing on you.

When I started to think about how I wanted this year to look differently than years past, I immediately concluded that I needed to spend more time on my physical and mental health. I need to take the time to not only make my fitness a priority but I also need to do more things that help me de-stress, relax and pause to enjoy life. I’m pretty excited about the prospect of filling my “me time” with running trails again because it’s the absolute best way for me to train my body physically, mentally and emotionally.
Logistically I have set a goal of getting outdoors and walking or jogging my favorite trails at least once a week. Since the weather is pretty brutal right now I had to stock up on some new outdoor gear. Which, who doesn’t LOVE outdoor apparel. If you follow me on Instagram and watch my stories then this will come as no surprise because I pretty much live in Patagonia, Lole and Arc’Teryx. Backcountry is my go-to retailer for all things outdoors.
I choose to shop at Backcountry over other retailers because they carry ALL of my favorite retailers and their customer service is next level! Over the frenzy of Black Friday I ran into some issues hunting down a ski suit for Hayden and called their customer service number. To my surprise a real human picked up within two rings. Seriously, it was like I was calling my friend to ask if they wanted to meet for dinner. These “gearheads” are available 24/7 via call, email or chat and can answer any and all questions related to your outdoor needs. Did I mention that they are former athletes, outdoor guides and even Olympians? I also appreciate their free 2-day shipping on all US orders over $50! So now that you’re ready to create an account on Backcountry.com to save all of the items I share, here are two great outdoor outfits to get you started! Both of these outfits are comprised of layers that can take you from errand running to a serious sweat session in no-time.
Cozy Hiking Outfit
Performance Tights // Sweatshirt // Patagonia Vest // Running Shoe // Ray-Ban // Backcountry Water Bottle (Use code CRISTIN15 for 15% off your first purchase at Backcountry.com!)
This sweatshirt is now my most-worn item in my closet! I’m in a small so it’s very roomy and you could potentially size down. I love that it has a chunky neck to keep you warm and thumb holes to keep your hands warm. I also love these tights for walking outside on chilly days. They have a drawstring to keep them in place, are lined for warmth and even have a spot for your phone! I’m in a medium for reference.

Cold Weather Layers for Running & Hiking
Down Jacket //Patagonia Vest // Crew Top // Patagonia Tights // Running Shoe // Ray-Ban // Backcountry Waterbottle // Patagonia Hat(Use code CRISTIN15 for 15% off your first purchase at Backcountry.com!)
This outfit is perfect for running and then hiking or walking! The tights are made from a moisture-wicking synthetic material that keeps you dry while running or doing yoga. There is a wide waistband so they stay in place and they are made with special flat-locked seams to eliminate chafing. I’m in a small for reference so I would size down! I paired the tights with a lightweight crew top. Once you are done with your workout you can layer with a cozy Patagonia vest. However, my favorite part about this outfit is this warm down jacket. There is a little bag that is looped through the collar and then entire thing folds down as big as your hand. It’s incredible!!

Two of my current favorite accessories are this water bottle and this Patagonia hat, which Zach keeps conveniently taking.
