One Room Challenge Update

Hey friends! This time next week I’ll be unveiling my One Room Challenge master bedroom makeover. To say that it’s going to be a week of frantically trying to get this finished would be an understatement! We’re wrapping up painting this week, my rug should be in tomorrow and then we can start moving in furniture. We still have to wire the TV through the wall so the cords don’t show, install the barn doors, put up the curtain rods and hang the curtains, find blinds (that might not happen in a week) and find a chair. If I can’t nail down a chair I like then we will most likely put my fiddle leaf fig from the dining room into that corner for the photos. So that’s all we have yet to do. Here is a look back at what all we have done to date.

This is what we started with. You can see all of the before photos here.

And this is what we are going for. You can read about my process of working with Elby Wren right here.

As far as progress goes, I’ve been busy trying to find items for the source list and Zach has been busy doing all of the actual work. First of all we had to get hard woods put in. Sara from Elby Wren picked out some samples for us to look at. The first sample matched our existing hard woods as best as possible (the don’t sell the actual type anymore). The second sample was a grey wood and a little too modern for our taste. The third sample was a reclaimed look which we both LOVED but since we aren’t going to stay here too long we decided to do the responsible thing and match the floors for whoever buys our house one day.

The next step was the shiplap. We put in the shiplap all over the wall while keeping the baseboard and molding. We framed the windows back out on top of the shiplap to match the other windows in the room. I absolutely love it!

Zach took off the doors and the frames to our closets, then put new frames on and sanded everything down to prepare the way for our barn doors. I naturally took photos of him and videoed myself on instagram stories. Scottie on the other hand was a little too much help. I mean how cute is she?!?! If we had to close the door for Zach to sand or work she would sit right beside it and try to peer underneath. She loves her daddy and especially won’t leave his side when he’s working on something. Meanwhile, Hayden was way too interested in Moana to care about what was going on.

Now that the walls and doors were taken care of it was time to tackle the carpet. Zach ripped it up, took out all the nails, sanded everything down and was my hero.

More photos of Zach doing work. This time getting rid of all of those ugly beige plates.

Now that the floors were in and the walls complete it was time to work on the the paint colors, drapes and fan. For paint we went with Sherwin Williams Extra White.

We are finishing up the painting today and I’m playing around with how I want everything laid out using painters tape. If you follow me on instagram I’ll post a couple of updates once the painting is done! But if you don’t you will just have to check back here next Thursday night for the reveal!
