Two weeks ago I was wrapping up a beautiful trip to Sea Island for The Southern C. The conference was fantastic and I honestly cannot say enough good things about the excellence of execution, quality of speakers and opportunities for networking. If you want to read a little bit more about The Summit you can check out this post. Not only was the conference top notch but the resort where it was held was unbelievable! Sea Island is a five start resort on the coast of GA with five miles of private beach, a 65,000 SF five-star spa, three golf courses, a fitness center and endless dining options. There are four options for lodging at Sea Island; The Cloister, The Lodge, The Inn and The Cottages. The Cloister is the “main” property and is an impressive 5-star luxury hotel.
The lobby is breathtaking and filled with seating areas, fresh flowers and two pianos that people may or may not gather around late at night as the bar is shutting down. I mean look at these FRESH flowers. Are you even serious?
The lobby is flanked on each side by Restaurants, a library where coffee is set out daily and a solarium complete with turtle doves. This is not a joke. When they mentioned this at the check-in I kind of chuckled thinking they were pulling my leg. But sure enough as you walk down the hall you can hear the faint chirping or little birds in their cages. It’s all very Dr. Doolittle meets Breakfast at Tiffany’s and I couldn’t love it more.
All of the food and drinks are so very good. We ended up eating at The River Bar two nights because we loved the relaxed atmosphere and casual American-style (read: bar food) dishes. The resort also catered a couple of our lunches & dinners for the conference and did a phenomenal job. I didn’t have anything that was one step less than absolutely delicious.
Across the street from The Cloister is The Beach Club where we had a delicious lunch one day and happy hour in the evenings. The pool is very impressive and even equipped with a water slide for the kiddos! It would be a great place to hang out all day long in the summer because the beach is literally steps from the pool and there are indoor bathrooms and plenty of food options.
The best part about having a conference there in February was that it wasn’t crowded at all and the weather was so very nice. Here are some options of how to dress for the weather there in early spring. I was able to wear a dress, short sleeves, open-toed shoes and didn’t really even get chilly at night because we were mostly inside and I always had my jean jacket or blazer.
Top | Bag | Jeans | Necklace | Watch
Blazer | Jeans (33% off) | Necklace | Watch | Pumps | Sunglasses | Earrings | Bag
Shoes (In charcoal) | Dress Here or Here | Jacket | Bag | Necklace | Watch
A lot of people have asked me what I thought about St. Simons and especially staying at Sea Island and if they should go. I will tell you what I tell them. It was a great trip, the area is beautiful and it was so fun but just being completely honest with you it would be hard for me to drive pass Charleston which is my favorite place on earth. The upside to this resort is that you are on the beach but driving from the upstate it is seriously a haul and a half! As in several hours from Charleston and only an hour north of Jacksonville. So maybe if you are from Charleston or want to try somewhere new or if you just want to make a whole week of it in the summer then I say go for it. I think it would be really fun with young families or couples with all of the activities and dining options around. If you do find yourself planning a trip to St. Simons here is a complete travel guide of all the best places to stay, eat and shop!
