What To Pack For An Early Spring Vacation

Last week I was in Sea Island for a conference and it was so nice to be in mild temperatures again. Pre-Spring travel can be so tricky to pack for unless you are going on vacation somewhere where you know there will be snow or sunny temps. With spring temps, winds & rainfall in constant uncertainty, it helps to have a solid packing plan no matter how long or short your vacation. The good news is that you can mix and match plenty of basics and have a plethora of outfit options. For instance, one pair of denim, a solid tee & a transitional jacket can be dressed up or down for the weather. The bad news is that what will change the entire look is your footwear!

If you too find yourself wondering what to pack, here are a few of my must-have items for late winter & early spring vacation when I don’t know if the weather will be chilly or warm.

8 Wardrobe Essentials For Early Spring Vacations

What to pack for spring vacation

Dress // Shoes // Bag // Sunglasses

Denim, Denim, Denim // Are you shocked? Me, packing denim?! I think a great pair of black denim is a MUST for any trip, but especially one where you might have to go casual and might have to dress up. You can pair one pair of black jeans with a tank and denim jacket, a boho blouse or a body suit and blazer and have 3 completely different outfits.

Stylish Raincoat // I absolutely love this raincoat from J.Crew. I have traveled in it, shopped in it and worn it with everything from denim cut-offs to black jeans & heels. In my opinion, it is a suitcase must for an early spring vacation.

Draped Blazer // A good blazer is always on the top of my to-pack list. If you find one with a great fit and a wearable fabric (not too stiff or suit-like) then you can easily wear it with shorts and loafers, denim and a graphic tee or dressed up with a cocktail dress.

Midi Dress // There are people out there who don’t love the midi dress, but please just give it a chance. If you feel frumpy it in, get one that ties somewhere on the torso. If you feel like it’s too constricting, then opt for a swing style. Whatever the case, find one and pack that sucker!! You can wear it with heels like I have above, dress down with flats or sneakers and a denim jacket, or if the weather is less than ideal, you could pair with booties and a long cardigan and/or vest. A versatile midi-dress is a wardrobe savior!

Button-Up Chambray // You can wear this closet staple with shorts or jeans, pair it under sweaters, wear it unbuttoned over tanks and tees, tie it over dresses or tie around your waist. It’s essentially an outfit chameleon.

Everyday Tees // If I’m having to pack for a vacation where I get the most wear out of my wardrobe, I’m packing a black tee, a striped tee & a graphic tee.

Lightweight Sweater // I take a lightweight sweater on most of my summer trips just because I love having something that I can layer of a tank top or swimsuit. I think finding a lightweight sweater that can be worn under a jacket or blazer, dressed down with jeans, or worn over a sweater is a must!

Versatile Shoes // If I’m packing for a trip where I want to take the least amount of shoes as possible, I’m taking these booties, these heels and these sneakers. The only thing that would be missing is rain boots, but a chic pair of packable Hunter boots solves that in an instant!
