Native 14 Day Challenge

Thank you to Native for sponsoring this post. As always, all products were selected by me and all opinions are my own!

I was challenged by my friend Lisa Allen of Salty Lashes to take on the Native 14 Day Challenge, where I committed to using Native’s clean, paraben and aluminum-free deodorant for two whole weeks! Native’s products are made with ingredients you can actually pronounce like coconut oil, shea butter, vitamin E and baking soda. I was also excited to see that they carried cucumber & mint scented deodorant because cucumber has been my scent of choice for well over a decade. Another bonus is that the products are made in the USA and the company was started by a man in an effort to find safer options for his pregnant sister.

About Native

Native is a San Francisco, CA based company that specializes in creating personal care products that are better for your body. They sell products like deodorant, body wash, bar soap, and toothpaste for women, men and teens. Native is committed to using only safe ingredients in their products, and work with everyone from PhDs to former NASA scientists to investigate ingredients and ensure their safety. Oh, and did I mention all of their products are hand poured in the good ole’ USA?

Why It’s Different

Products from Native are formulated with ingredients you’ll actually recognize, like Coconut Oil, Baking Soda, Tapioca Starch, Shea Butter, and even Probiotics that kill odor causing bacteria. You won’t find standard ingredients like talc, aluminum, or parabens in ANY of their products! The best part, though, is that these totally safe products actually work! The team at Native ensures the effectiveness of their products, so you don’t have to trade safe ingredients for the scents and sweat protection you love.

Speaking of scents, Native offers some GREAT ones. From Coconut & Vanilla, to Lavender & Rose, to Cucumber & Mint, there’s truly a scent for everyone. Even for your guy! Men’s scents include Eucalyptus & Mint and Citrus & Herbal Musk. There are even scent options for people who don’t like scent! Try the Unscented or Charcoal versions if fragrance isn’t your thing.

About the Challenge

I used Native Deodorant consistently for 14 days and here are my honest and real results! I started using the Cucumber & Mint scented deodorant because it smelled the most like the deodorant I was using. I noticed that for the first one or two applications the deodorant was a little harder to get gliding than normal deodorants that are full of harmful fillers. After I “broke the seal” on it so to speak, it was easy to apply.

Several people mentioned to me that I should have “detoxed” my armpits, that I might develop a rash and that Native could stain my clothing. In 100% honestly, I never experienced any of the above. I didn’t need to “detox”, I never broke out or got a rash and I didn’t notice a single stain on my clothes. As you can see from these photos, I work out almost exclusively in black so I think if there would have been transfer of the deodorant to my clothing, I would have noticed. After reading about the “detoxing” and irritation that some people experience, it sounds like irritation happens when people have sensitivities to baking soda. Native has an entire line of baking-soda free, “sensitive” options that were formulated specifically for people who have sensitivities to baking-soda. You can check them out here. If you aren’t sure if you have a baking soda sensitivity, no worries! Native offers free returns and exchanges.

As far as how the Native deodorant held up against odor, I was very pleased! I have been working out fairly hard in preparation for my next birthday, aka becoming a year older. Even after an hour long weightlifting and athletic conditioning class, my armpits still smelled like the deodorant and not body odor. I wish I could say the same for the rest of my body but I can attest to the fact that Native works! I even tried out the Coconut & Vanilla scent to see if it worked just as well, and it did!

I plan to continue using Native because it’s better for my body and because at the end of the day (or a workout) I still smell the scent of the deodorant and not my sweat. Today I’m challenging my friends Laura Godfrey of @laurawgodfrey and Beth Chappo of @seersuckerandsaddles to take the Native Challenge.
