Reindeer Food: Easy Christmas No-Bake Baking

Reindeer Food, Christmas Crack, White Trash

My entire life my aunt has made “white trash” for us at Christmas. I’ve also heard it called Christmas Crack or Reindeer Food but we called it White Trash because you make it by throwing the mixture in a trash bag, adding in powder sugar & shaking. It’s one of my favorite Christmas snacks and while it looks like puppy chow, it’s actually so much better because this recipe is made with Golden Grahams and has pecans & raisins in the mix!

I used to beg my aunt to make it every year and now I like to make it for the girls! This year we are giving it to their friends and so I added some Christmas sprinkles before I tied up the bags to make it “Reindeer Food”. I thought that would be more festive and kid friendly than “hey here’s some trash” or “here’s some “Christmas crack”. If you are looking for a Christmas treat that takes zero skill, is fun for kids (give them a sealed zip lock and let them go to town, and is DELICIOUS, then look no further!

Reindeer Food Recipe

Mix the following together in a large bowl:

  • 12 oz Box of Golden Graham Cereal
  • 2 1/2 Cups Pecan Halves
  • 15 oz. Box of Raisins

Melt together on the stove (do not boil):

  • 1 Stick Margarine
  • 12 oz. Package of Semisweet Chocolate Chips
  • 12 oz. Jar Creamy Peanut Butter
  • 1/2 tsp Vanilla

Pour the melted mixture over the dry mixture and stir until coated.

Pour 1 lb. bag of confectioners sugar in a large zip lock or unscented trash bag. Pour in the original mixture and shake until completely covered with sugar. I didn’t have a large bag so I did this a little at a time in gallon sized bags!

Enjoy!!

Could butter be used instead of the margarine?
