Binge-Worthy Shows Volume 2

Need a new show for the week ahead? Here is another great list of binge-worthy shows to watch! (You can go check out the first roundup here.) Zach and I have been watching so much TV at night that I honestly need to go ahead and update this AGAIN. In addition to the shows below I would also like to include Waco & Money Heist. Earlier this week we finished Waco and we are currently watching Money Heist. I’m not going to say Waco is best show that I ever watched (mostly because it’s a heart-wrenching true story) but it is by the very essence of the word, binge-worthy. It’s a 6 episode mini-series and we knocked it out in two nights! After we finished Waco, we started Money Heist. It’s pretty annoying that it’s a voice over and the subtitles don’t match the translations, but I’ve heard they eventually fix that. The plot, however, has us hooked!

Dramas

Sneaky PeteAmazon Prime Video, A con man (Giovanni Ribisi) on the run from a vicious gangster (Bryan Cranston) takes cover from his past by assuming the identity of his prison cellmate, Pete, “reuniting” with Pete’s estranged family, a colorful, dysfunctional group that threatens to drag him into a world just as dangerous as the one he’s trying to escape – and, just maybe, give him a taste of the loving family he’s never had.

Yellowstone- Paramount Network Website, Kevin Costner is the marquee attraction of the ensemble cast in this drama series, starring as the patriarch of a powerful, complicated family of ranchers. A sixth-generation homesteader and devoted father, John Dutton controls the largest contiguous ranch in the United States. He operates in a corrupt world where politicians are compromised by influential oil and lumber corporations and land grabs make developers billions. Amid shifting alliances, unsolved murders, open wounds, and hard-earned respect, Dutton’s property is in constant conflict with those it borders — an expanding town, an Indian reservation, and America’s first national park.

Succession- Hulu & Amazon Prime Video, The Roy family – Logan Roy and his four children – controls one of the biggest media and entertainment conglomerates in the world. Succession tracks their lives as they contemplate what the future will hold for them when — or if — their aging father begins to step back from the company. Set in New York, Succession explores themes of power, politics, money, and family.

Bosch- Amazon Prime Video, Based on Michael Connelly’s best-selling novels, Harry Bosch, an LAPD homicide detective, stands trial for the fatal shooting of a serial murder suspect — just as a cold case involving the remains of a missing boy forces Bosch to confront his past. As daring recruit, Julia Brasher, catches his eye, and departmental politics heat up, Bosch will pursue justice at all costs.

Outlander- Neflix, Hulu, & Amazon Prime Video, After serving as a British Army nurse in World War II, Claire Randall is enjoying a second honeymoon in Scotland with husband Frank, an MI6 officer looking forward to a new career as an Oxford historian. Suddenly, Claire is transported to 1743 and into a mysterious world where her freedom and life are threatened. To survive, she marries Jamie Fraser, a strapping Scots warrior with a complicated past and a disarming sense of humor. A passionate relationship ensues, and Claire is caught between two vastly different men in two inharmonious lives.

Breaking Bad- Netflix, A high school chemistry teacher Walter White thinks his life can’t get much worse. His salary barely makes ends meet, a situation not likely to improve once his pregnant wife gives birth, and their teenage son is battling cerebral palsy. But Walter is dumbstruck when he learns he has terminal cancer. Realizing that his illness probably will ruin his family financially, Walter teams with a former student to secure his family’s future by manufacturing and selling crystal meth.

QuanticoNetflix, This drama explores the lives of young FBI recruits who have come to the Quantico base in Virginia for 21 weeks of training to become special agents. The recruits have been thoroughly vetted and are considered the best and the brightest – but each one possesses secrets, including hidden reasons for enlisting. One recruit is harbouring the biggest secret of all, and he ends up being suspected of masterminding the most deadly attack on U.S. soil since 9/11.

Mad Men- Netflix, In 1960s New York, alpha male Don Draper struggles to stay on top of the heap in the high-pressure world of Madison Avenue advertising firms. Aside from being one of the top ad men in the business, Don is also a family man, the father of young children.

Downton Abbey- Downton Abbey spans 12 years of gripping drama centered on a great English estate on the cusp of a vanishing way of life. America has fallen in love with Downton Abbey‘s Granthams and their family of servants, and has followed them through sweeping change, scandals, love, ambition, heartbreak, and hope ever since. With Julian Fellowes’ crackling writing and its stellar ensemble cast led by Maggie Smith, Downton Abbey delivers wit, warmth, passion and a phenomenon that is, at its heart, utterly human.

White Collar- Hulu & Amazon Prime Video, White Collar is about the unlikely partnership between a con artist and an FBI agent who have been playing cat and mouse for years. Neal Caffrey, a charming criminal mastermind, is finally caught by his nemesis, FBI Agent Peter Burke. When Neal escapes from a maximum-security prison to find his long-lost love, Peter nabs him once again. Rather than returning to jail, Neal suggests an alternate plan: he’ll provide his criminal expertise to assist the Federal Agents in catching other elusive criminals. Initially wary, Peter quickly finds that Neal provides insight and intuition that can’t be found on the right side of the law.

Gossip Girl- Netflix, A group of hyperprivileged Manhattan private-school kids seem to get away with everything. Except an anonymous blogger is watching their every move. The series begins with the return of Upper East Side teenage “it girl” Serena van der Woodsen from a mysterious absence. She is reunited with her frenemy Blair Waldorf and her mother Lily, while she also meets Dan Humphrey, an aspiring writer from Brooklyn.

Designated Survivor- Netflix, As a lower-level cabinet member, Tom Kirkman never imagined something would happen that would catapult him to the oval office. When a devastating attack on the night of the State of the Union address claims the lives of the president and most of the Cabinet, the Housing and Urban Development secretary finds himself promoted to leader of the free world. Suddenly thrust into his new position of power, Kirkman struggles to keep the country from dissolving into chaos and must adjust to his new normal, unaware of what fresh horrors may await the United States.

Docuseries

The series features arresting archival footage as well as comprehensive interviews with the people closest to the events including a timely, in-depth reflection on the topic with Monica Lewinsky.

With their two spoiled children in tow and their pampered lives behind them, the Rose family is forced to face their newfound poverty head-on and come together as a family to survive.

New Girl- Netflix, After going through a rough breakup, awkward and upbeat Jess moves in with three single guys. Together with Jess’ best friend, Cece, they bond to form an unlikely, and dysfunctional, family.
