A Weekend In Charleston

A couple of weekends ago Zach joined me for a little “work trip” aka eating, shopping and hotel previewing in Charleston, SC. I love to cover properties and restaurants on this blog and Charleston is one of my favorite cities to create travel guides for. During this trip we stayed at The Spectator and The Grand Bohemian and visited The Dewberry and Zero George Street. We spent time at the beach and enjoyed shopping on King Street (The Skinny Dip Charleston was a favorite). And we were sure to carve out plenty of time for eating. On this trip we hit up Hanks, Taco Boy, Ellis Creek Fish Camp, Poe’s Tavern, The Darling Oyster Bar, The Living Room, The Spectator’s Bar, Market Pavilion Rooftop, Mercantile & Mash, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream & Zero Cafe + Bar. I know, you’re impressed. Now excuse me while I go and hop on a treadmill somewhere.

Let’s be honest, 99.9% of you are here for style alone so let’s tackle that first. I packed a couple of new items including these high waisted shorts, these distressed shorts, this tee and this comfy sweatshirt. I also took some faithful favorites including this crossbody (which I wear ALL the time), these shoes, these jeans and this top. I love packing mostly neutrals when I travel because it keeps the number of accessories to a minimum. This top was definitely outside the box for me but I loved it too much not to bring it.

WHERE WE STAYED

We stayed the majority of the weekend at The Spectator. You can read all about our stay here but in short it is amazing, has the best location out of any of the downtown hotels and we will 100% be going back!

Next we went to The Grand Bohemian for a night. There is a Grand Bohemian in Biltmore that we visit a lot because we love their restaurant. I’ve never stayed at one of their hotels and loved this one’s quirky decor, great location on Wentworth and trendy vibe.

WHERE WE ATE

More like what didn’t we eat. When you stay at The Spectator you get free breakfast every morning. They leave a card in your room at night (with a complimentary toddy from the bar) and you select what you want, fill out what time you would like it served and place the card on the door knob. I mean what a dream! It totally spoils you and makes you never want to stay anywhere else. Since we aren’t turning down a free breakfast, especially one served in bed, our breakfast every morning looked a lot like this served with a side of Fixer Upper.

The Spectator also has snacks and apps set out in the afternoon for your enjoyment and their bar has the coolest atmosphere with a ton of seating and delicious drinks! Really we could have just lived here and ordered dinners in and been more than happy.

If you ever eat at The Darling Oyster Bar, order everything. No seriously, ceviche, oysters, cocktail shrimp. You cannot go wrong with anything from their raw bar. Their entrees are great too and it’s just down the road from Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream which is a win-win.

When you beach it on Sullivans then you eat at Poe’s Tavern, especially if you’re with a guy. He always gets a burger but I like to sin and get the Fish Tacos at the place known for it’s amazing burgers. Maybe it’s because I don’t appreciate a quality burger. Too much McDonalds will do that to a person.

If you are in Charleston, you have to go eat at Hanks!!!! It has been mine, Zach’s and his entire family’s favorite spot for over a decade. I have probably eaten over 100 meals here and it never disappoints.

We had happy hour at The Dewberry one night and it was dreamy! The entire hotel is uber mid-century modern and all very chic and hip. The fries and oysters were to die for as was this summer salad with fresh peaches.

Zach had never been to Zero George so we made sure to get by there for a drink on the patio. This is an amazing property to stay at if you have the chance. If you can’t work it out or it’s too fancy for you blood then you must at least stop by and enjoy dinner or happy hour on the grounds. It’s breathtakingly beautiful!

WHAT WE DID

Let’s be serious all we did was eat, eat and eat some more with random breaks for shopping and naps on the beach. But here are some pictures for your enjoyment!
